Windsor Park is the home of Linfield FC and plays host to the Northern Ireland football team as the national stadium, with a capacity of 18,434. It’s named after the district in south Belfast in which it is located. It opened on the 2nd September 1905, with a match between Linfield and Glentoran. It first hosted an international fixture on 19th March 1910 when an all-Ireland team defeated Scotland 1-0 in a British Championship tie, thanks to a goal from Frank Thompson. Since then, the Northern Ireland national team have recorded many famous victories at Windsor defeating nations such as West Germany, Belgium, Spain and England.

The stadium has undergone significant redevelopment at least four times. In the 1930s, the main, seated ‘Grandstand was added, along with an open terrace behind the goal called the ‘Spion Kop’. In the 1960s the ‘Railway Stand’ was built, increasing the capacity to 60,000. During this period the ground recorded its record attendance when 58,420 watched Northern Ireland draw 1-1 with England. In the 1990s the Spion Kop was demolished and replaced with a 5000-seater Kop stand. The most recent redevelopment was in 2016 when it was modernised to a world class sporting venue. It will host the UEFA Super Cup final contested by the Champions League winners and Europa League winners in August 2021.
